The Crone's Hub

The Crone’s Hub is a community focusing on the transition into the third stage of life. When it became apparent that I was perimenopausal and at a young age to claim such, I dove into all the resources I could find. The desire for sisterhood was strong and I envision this group to be a mature version of the Jupiter Mermaids, inclusively filling a gap amongst my sisters.

The Crone’s Hub was borne out of desperation for community and sisterhood. When I began experiencing some of the big stressors of perimenopause, I collected as much information as I could find; I knew I needed to become an expert on my body. I also needed my sisters and I’m grateful for the existing women’s groups that I participated in, they held me up when I didn’t top from bottom. I’m considered “young” for the change and that message was isolating & othering within communities of women older than I, and when brought in front of communities of younger women, it was foreign. I created this group out of a desire to fill a gap. Perimenopause has not always been discussed and recognized for how big-of-a-deal it really is and I want to be a part of why that changes.

We’re reclaiming the Crone Archetype as a wise woman of great power; and while it’s true that she is closer to death and less/no longer fertile, she is not a lesser women to have survived & thrived into this stage of life. Humans are one of only a few animals on our planet that continue to live and function after aging out of the reproductive phase. Our bodies are reinventing themselves and we are reinventing the stereotypes of the archtype itself: The Crone is a wild woman with a regulated nervous system. She has the wisdom of a lifetime and uses it to love and care for herself. As crones, we have the opportunity to be the fullest version of ourselves.

In this group, we offer sisterhood, primarily through a chat feature. We have several chats within a WhatsApp Community, giving everyone the opportunity to opt-in and opt-out of conversations as at will. The social chat, titled Sisterhood Social Chat, is just that, an open form to dialogue with our sisters. The events chat, titled Circles, Gatherings & Events, is a space for all women’s groups and gatherings to be shared. Articles & Information is the title of our news chat and while the word news is super vague, this chat is for that kind of sharing where fact checking is important; conversation around these topics is encouraged in the chat. There is, of course, an Administrative Chat for troubleshooting and direct contact with me, the founder and moderator of the Crone’s Hub Community. With time, we will add yoga classes, seasonal cohorts, book clubs, and whatever the community needs, as we evolve. First up will be a gathering of some sort to celebrate our founding members (we are 31 members strong — double what I anticipated — since our launch last month).

I hope to bring my wise woman experience to the Crone’s Hub; for it to be mroe successful than the Jupiter Mermaids. The Jupiter Mermaids, was a community of water loving women that came together as a networking group for local, female, business owners (circa 2014?). Once a month, we would meet at Sushi Jo in Juno Beach for a social-networking-meal-together. At the time, I had some kind of deal worked out with the owner and we’d take over most of the dining area for a couple hours on a weekday afternoon. Our monthly luncheon was a space to share ideas, ask questions and get to know each other. The Jupiter Mermaids formed on its own — I swear. I did not know what I was doing and the only real skill I had at the time was bringing people together. Once I got them together, I had no idea what to do and I flailed quite a bit. For a couple years, we met at the same time, same place every month and I struggled with the responsibility of communication, accountability and effort. I asked for volunteers, but they did not pan out; I asked for donations and that seemed to help, but was inconsistent, so I set a rate to attend and the whole thing fell apart rather suddenly. It was, as they say, the end of an era and I was sad to lose the sisterhood, but relieved to have more capacity to invest in other projects. Over the years, I’ve become wiser and sustainability is at the forefront of everything I do. For the Crone’s Hub, I want to combine my innate skill at bringing people together with a my experience leading groups to create a community with enough momentum to hold itself together— to create a legacy of support.

I envision this group to be a safe space for uterus and former-uterus owners — but our focus will be on transition from the Mother to Crone archetype — or, for some of us, the transition from Maiden to Crone. Our group is inclusive: anyone who was born with a uterus may join. It doesn’t matter your age, phase of life, location, race, religion, alignment, or current gender; if you have or have had a uterus, you are likely to have symptoms, questions or the need for community and I want The Crone’s Hub to be that resource.

The Crone’s Hub is a community of women embracing, supporting and embodying the third stage of life. We are a sisterhood of mature and wise women, a resource and a community, filling a gap in the conversation as we undergo transformation; living our best lives, inclusively, as the Crone.
